Rhapsody in Red and Blue

With all the recent, post-election ranting about "red states" and "blue states," it seems old Georgie's advice is all you really need.

Red and blue, ketchup and mustard. It's all bullshit, another attempt to divert attention from real problems. Pundits and talking meatholes, stammering this way and that about a "divided America".

We aren't divided...we just exist. But, we exist because of who we are collectively; a bunch or mongrels and mutts from every country, misfits drawn together from independence in 1776 until this minute, right now, when another new citizen slips across a border or arrives in style. Different from one another? Sure. Yeah. Divided? Never.

The only division, the only TRUE division in the United States, is the right and the wrong, not the right and the left. Those with common sense and compassion, and those without. Those with the ability to disagree but understand their opponents point of view, and those without that ability. Those who stay informed and objective, and those who do not. Those who choose to buy into media-created symbols of wealth and faith, and those who don't. Those who are gullible enough to believe in a healthy mixture of Yankee carpetbagger elitism and the cowboy myth, and well, the rest of us.

No color-coding, please. Don't afix a color to yourself based on "moral values" or any other crap. Right this second, somewhere in Iraq, a young soldier is locked and loaded and getting ready to go hot for the first time in their life. Right now, they don't need petty division back home; They need the red and the white and the blue, and the faith that it still means something to all of us.
